Our First Initiative
This season, we’re proud to launch the very first initiative in our Goat Herding Ethics program—one that’s close to our hearts and rooted in the memory of Millie.
Millie was a fragile goat kid who came into our care last year. Despite our best efforts, she was returned to her herd and sadly passed away due to neglect. Her short life is the reason we are committed to protecting kids during kidding season.
Introducing: Millie Sacks
Our first project provides warmth sacks made from burlap coffee bags stuffed with straw. These simple, affordable sacks will be distributed to local herders for their orphaned kids—giving them warmth, comfort, and a better chance to survive and thrive.
Why It Matters
Newborn kids are highly vulnerable to cold stress
Orphaned kids often lack their mother’s warmth
Something as simple as a Millie Sack can mean the difference between life and death
What’s Next
We’ll be working with local goat and sheep herders this kidding season (beginning in January) to share Millie Sacks, gather feedback, and continue improving the design. This is just the beginning—our goal is to build practical, compassionate tools that make herd management healthier for both animals and people.
